A Note from the Director
Dear friends and members,
Finally, the event that we at CEFAGE-UE have all been waiting for- the results of the evaluation by the Portuguese Science Foundation (FCT) of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Our classification- Excellent.
This result, is the award at the end of a long, arduous journey. And it has been worth every step of the way! It is indeed rare that FCT awards the highest grade to a new center, evaluated for the first time. This result reflects the outstanding researchers that CEFAGE-UE has, both internal as well as external to the university. My sincere thanks to them, especially the many who chose to be with our center.
My gratitude too to Cesaltina Pires, for her tireless work as the scientific coordinator, and for the inspiration that she is to all of us. She has shown that excellence can be achieved by any of us, if we believe enough, and work hard enough,
To Joaquim Ramalho, CEFAGE-UE´s Vice-President for research- for his discipline, dedication and continuous drive to make the center a place of excellence.
To Antonio Sousa, CEFAGE-UE´s Vice-President for outreach activities, who has provided the right incentives to provide services to firms.
We realize that with this result, the responsibility is even much more, to keep on the same track of research excellence. That is our goal now, to not slip and remain focussed. As the poet Robert Frost had said, “he woods are lovely, dark, and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.”
