Call for Chapters - New challenges for the Eurozone governance: Are there joint solutions for common threats?

Contributed volume to be published by Springer
Editors: José Caetano, Isabel Vieira, and António Caleiro

The corona virus pandemic is a most pressing test to the subsistence of the European
Monetary Union. It has emphasized preexisting divisions amongst its members and
highlighted the urgency of addressing institutional and governance problems that were
already present in the aftermath of the financial and the sovereign debt crises, but have
now gained in relevance following the more widespread impact of the disease across
the European Union. This contributed volume will focus on economic, institutional and
political problems faced by the Eurozone and on possible solutions and future
scenarios for the group of countries sharing the common currency.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited, to:

  • The macroeconomics of the Euro

  • Economic, fiscal and monetary policies

  • Adjustment and stabilization

  • Financial issues

  • Institutional reforms

  • The social dimension

  • Institutional rebalancing inside the EU

  • International implications

  • Lessons from the past
