Travel Information
The city of Evora
Evora is located in Alentejo, with unique characteristics and several touristic attractions and itineraries. The city of Évora, World Heritage, with about 50.000 inhabitants, has an important Historical Centre which is enclosed by the Medieval Walls. The most ancient nucleus is surrounded by the roman wall and contains some of the city's most important monuments and its ex-libris: the Roman Temple. Évora is mostly a city of services, with a large offer in terms of public, banking and insurance services, among others, which makes citizens' and visitors' everyday life much easier.
Accessibility
Évora is located at about 1h:30m from Lisbon, to which it is connected through highway A6. Longitudinally, the road IP2 links the district capitals of Beja, Évora and Portalegre with Algarve and Beira Baixa. From the North, Évora may be reached through the region of Vila Franca de Xira (highway A1 - Oporto/Lisbon). If you choose to exit in Santarém, you can take national road N114, thus leading you directly to Montemor-o-Novo, or highway A13 towards Algarve, which connects to A6 in Marateca. If by public transports, the Rede Nacional de Expressos (National Express Bus Network) may be the right choice, since it provides regular bus routes to Évora, from any point of the country.
Weather
The weather is temperate, with Mediterranean and continental features: hot dry summers, damp cold winters, and mild temperatures and moderate thermal amplitudes during spring and autumn.

University of Evora
The University of Evora is simultaneously an old and a new university. It was founded in 1559 by Cardinal D. Henrique, who handed over to the Company of Jesus. In 1759 - two hundred years after its foundation - the University was closed as a consequence of a royal decree that banished the Jesuits from Portugal. Only in 1973, more than two centuries later, was the University of Evora reconstituted as a public university. It was installed in its original building, the Colegio do Espirito Santo (College of the Holy Spirit), the same building where the 2nd Annual Meeting of the Portuguese Economic Journal will take place.
Currently, the University of Evora offers all different levels of undergraduate and graduate studies within a perspective closely tied to scientific research and artistic creation.
